Ballet After Dark is a powerful short documentary that follows Tyde-Courtney Edwards, a classically trained ballerina from Baltimore who transforms personal trauma into a movement of healing and empowerment. After surviving a sexual assault, Tyde channels her experience into founding Ballet After Dark - an outreach organization that uses dance as a pathway to recovery for survivors of violence. As the film traces Tyde’s complex journey through body image, censorship, social media, and the rigid norms of the ballet world, it offers an unflinching look at what it means to be a Black woman reclaiming narrative, agency, and artistry. At its core, Ballet After Dark is not only about survival, but about defiance, resilience, and the radical power of movement to create space for all of who we are.
